.THE HIGHLIGHTS.
Rose Namajunas Dominates Tracy Cortez at UFC Denver
Cortez, a last-minute replacement for Maycee Barber, put in a brave showing against Namajunas in the Main Event of UFC Denver, but the skill gap between her and the veteran was clear, as Namajunas dictated the pace through the whole fight. Namajunas took the chance post-victory to call for a shot at a women's version of the BMF title.
A Comeback for Khamzat?
Khamzat Chimaev's career so far has been plagued by pullouts, illness, and weight problems, but he's eager to get a consistent run in. The Swede is now eyeing a return to the octagon for UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi, set for October 26th. He told Match TV, "I have seven fights, seven victories ... There is no fighter in the UFC who has won seven fights without fighting for the belt."
Is Ardelean The Worst Signing Ever?
The signing of TikTok star Alice Ardelean to the UFC hasn't gone down well with fight fans. The Birmingham, UK-based fighter has won her last five fights but is best known for her TikTok following. Cageside Press writer Shawn Bitter says what we're all thinking:
"The UFC signing Alice Ardelean is a disgrace to the promotion. Probably the worst signing ever and I'm not joking. Ardelean isn't a fighter, she's a TikTok star."
Jon Jones' UFC 309 Return in Doubt
In a since-deleted social media post, Jon Jones announced he'd suffered a mutilated finger, raising doubt over the future of his fight vs Stipe Miocic. Jones hasn't fought since March 2023, when he suffered the only loss on his professional record.
.THE HEAT.
Artem Vakhitov Calls for UFC Fight vs Alex Pereira
Kickboxing veteran Artem Vakhitov believes UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira isn't as unbeatable as others think. Vakhitov says, "his biggest weakness is that he's all attack, he has no defense." He adds, "These other guys haven't done well against Alex because their striking isn't high enough level. They aren't confident against him, and they think he's unbeatable, so in their heart, they are already defeated before the fight starts."
Tough words? Sure, but Vakhitov has already beaten Pereira once before in kickboxing and claims, "I'm sure I'll do it again if we can get our trilogy match in the UFC."
Kamaru Usman Says Nate Diaz is "Not a World-Class Fighter"
Speaking on the Pound 4 Pound Podcast, Kamaru Usman disputed Henry Cejudo's claim that Diaz could return to the highest levels of the UFC. Usman told Cejudo to "get serious," adding, "to say Nate Diaz is going to come back in and walk into fighting world-class Mixed Martial Arts fighters right now in the UFC, come on, that's absurd, that's crazy."
Usman does, however, think a Diaz/Paul match would go the way of the Stockton Slugger.
